Custom Off-Grid Home, Red Canyon Subdivision, Iron County, UT
The owners of this secluded home were emphatic that it maximize the view potential of the building site while minimizing the impact on the property and the surrounding environment. GPA met the challenge with a passive solar design that welcomes the sun in the winter and keeps it at bay when temperatures soar in the summer. In time the galvanized metal siding will oxidize to match the distinctive Red Canyon soil.
Located in an off-grid subdivision between Summit and Parowan, Utah, the self-contained home has its own water, sewer and energy systems. A solar hot water heater provides hot water. Photovoltaic cells on the roof provide power with battery storage, and a back-up generator is available should additional energy be needed.
