Iron County Visitors Center, Cedar City, UT
The elegant 18,000-square-foot visitors center houses the Cedar City - Brian Head Tourism Bureau, a Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum and many public amenities. Designed to show Iron County's historical connections in a stately, current setting, the shapes and materials link the building to the past while the steel structure, open plan and sophisticated lighting anchor it firmly in the present. A full-length monitor skylight runs the span of the great hall. It provides diffused natural illumination all year round. All furniture and casework were designed, detailed, and specified by the architect. The map room contains a map library, a large interactive topographic model of Iron County, and looks toward the historic buildings at next door Frontier Homestead State Park.
