The American Institute of Architects or AIA was established in 1857. More than a licensing and governing body for architects, the AIA deals with real-life issues that affect the way we live. The Center for Communities by Design promotes efforts to make communities more liveable, safe, and sustainable. The AIA Disaster Assistance Program supports the changing role of architects in disaster response as they help communities develop disaster preparedness plans and take action to help people return to their homes as quickly as possible after a disaster.
